This performance is dedicated to my unborn brother who had to be aborted and more than one generation that has to deal with the lifelong aftermath of one-child policy.

The whole performance symbolises a distorted combination of a birthday celebration that never really took place and a funeral that deserves to be remembered. On an individual level, this performance also opens conversations between the audience and the artist on how to cope with abortion (either forced, reluctant or voluntary, or all three at the same time), the mental pain along and after it, and lastly how to forget/remember/honour an aborted life and a lost kin.

The number of candles I lighted up represents the age he would have been at the year 2020. The colour of white is traditionally the funeral colour in my heritage culture.
