Sugarcane Land

Summer pour washed down the dome

The world turned into a waterfall

Shoulder to shoulder

We watched it unfold

Time tossed to another dimension

Air breathed into paper thin

Hearts synchronised their beats

Fog crawled down your mom’s car windows

Gate closed at 7pm by the lake

We nearly made it by 6:58

If we had gotten locked inside

Would that’ve been better?

Oh that sugarcane land

You traced your heart on the white sand

Howling wind untangled your bun

Your pop missed that morning sun

Oh that sugarcane land

Where her summer’s one of a kind

Never had I the motherland

Never have I held your hand
